We’re strengthening game design education by:
• Providing support to the University of Malta (UOM), UOM Institute of Digital Games and MCAST, degree programs in Game Art, Visual Design, and Interactive Media.
• Bringing together training centres, academic partners, instructors, and local stakeholders to explore Unreal Engine learning pathways, under Gaming Malta’s very own initiative: Academy of Interactive Media (AIM).
• Serving as a Unity Centre of Excellence, collaborating with international colleges to deliver top-tier curricula, internships, and industry-led training, already reaching 400 students to date
• Investing in new computer labs at MCAST ICA/ICT.

Malta already has a growing base of skilled professionals, and we’re building on that with:

• Scholarships and work placements for local students.

• International masterclasses hosted in Malta to boost knowledge-sharing and educational tourism.

Part of a national plan to attract global players, create thousands of new jobs, and position Malta as a leading centre for gaming and immersive tech.

We’re creating a supportive funding environment through:

• Targeted grant schemes for game development: Malta Enterprise backs video game projects with cultural value through grants of up to €200,000, alongside R&D tax credits and startup financing options that can reach €1.5 million.

• Comprehensive lifecycle support: From pre-seed grants and R&D tax credits to startup finance (up to €1.5 million) and commercialisation assistance, Malta Enterprise and Maltese funds deliver tailored financing solutions at every stage of growth, facilitating sustainable progress.

• Accelerator Partnerships: Gaming Malta offers an accelerator program which connect startups to global investors, mentors, and funding opportunities. This is complemented with other innovation incentives, to ensure that Malta isn’t just funding game development but actively building a thriving hub for the video games industry.
