BLAST Slam VI Malta marked another strategic step in positioning the island as a host for Tier 1 international esports tournaments.
Organised by BLAST and hosted at the BLAST Arena Studio in Ta’ Qali, the event brought elite teams, international broadcast exposure, and live arena competition directly to Malta. The tournament moved from online stages into a high-pressure LAN playoff environment, transforming Ta’ Qali into a focal point for global esports audiences.
For GamingMalta Foundation, this event represents more than a standalone tournament. It forms part of a long-term strategy to attract top-tier competitions that generate international visibility, strengthen the local ecosystem, and create tangible economic impact.
Tier 1 tournaments demand advanced production capabilities, strong digital infrastructure, and operational precision. Hosting them locally demonstrates that Malta can meet those requirements consistently. It also reinforces the island’s credibility among international organisers who seek reliable, broadcast-ready destinations.
The impact of the event is also reflected in its performance data. BLAST Slam VI Malta recorded the highest peak viewership in Dota Slam history, reaching 324,000 concurrent viewers, with an average audience of 143,000 and a total of 12.5 million hours watched. Social media performance was equally strong, generating 28 million impressions, 298,000 engagements, and 36,000 new followers across platforms, excluding Twitch. These figures confirm that hosting Tier 1 tournaments in Malta translates into measurable global exposure and sustained audience engagement.
The event aligns with the direction set out in Malta Vision 2050, which prioritises high-value sectors driven by technology and global reach. Esports sits firmly within that vision. Large-scale tournaments generate international exposure, attract visiting teams and production crews, and place Malta within global competitive circuits.
Through the Make It In Malta approach, the aim extends beyond hosting events. The focus is on encouraging organisers, studios, and talent to establish a long-term presence on the island. When global tournaments operate from Malta, they showcase the country’s ability to support complex productions while connecting local professionals to international networks.
BLAST Slam VI demonstrated this in practice. The live studio environment combined elite competition with high-end broadcast standards. International audiences engaged with Malta not only as a location, but as a capable esports host.
Each event builds reputation. Each successful delivery increases confidence among global stakeholders. The result is steady progress towards a clear objective: positioning Malta as a consistent home for Tier 1 esports tournaments within the wider gaming ecosystem.
BLAST Slam VI Malta stands as another milestone in that journey.
