From 2 to 4 July, the Institute of Digital Games (University of Malta) hosted DiGRA 2025, one of the world’s leading conferences on game studies. GamingMalta was proud to support this international event, which brought together researchers, developers, and enthusiasts to explore the cultural, creative, and social dimensions of games and play.
The conference featured workshops on Avatar Aesthetics, Responsible Game Design for Fandom, and Writing about Gameplay, alongside discussions on how games can address themes such as climate change, migration, and social justice while inspiring creativity and connection. The programme also included a public panel on Games at the Crossroads, as well as indie game showcases, film screenings, curated board game nights, and a jazz-themed conference dinner, all set within Malta’s distinctive surroundings.
Supporting DiGRA 2025 reflected GamingMalta’s ongoing commitment to promoting Malta as a home for digital creativity, a space where academia, industry, and culture come together to advance understanding and innovation in games and interactive media.
