Day 3 at gamescom 2026: Exploring Malta’s Esports and Immersive Technology Sectors

The final day of the gamescom 2026 expo puts the spotlight on another side of Malta’s interactive entertainment sector, from esports to VR and AR.

Esports continues to play an important role in Malta’s international gaming presence. With experience hosting major international competitions and working with leading tournament organisers, Malta has built a strong foundation in the sector. At gamescom, the focus is on strengthening those relationships, exploring what comes next for competitive gaming and creating pathways that connect international activity with the development of local talent.

Immersive technologies bring another dimension to Malta’s growing interactive entertainment sector. From VR and AR to new applications and experiences, these technologies are creating opportunities for studios, developers and specialised talent. gamescom provides a valuable setting to connect with technology partners and developers working in these areas and explore how Malta can support more activity in this space.

Both areas reflect the direction set out in Malta Vision 2050, from strengthening Malta’s international esports presence and grassroots pathways to supporting the continued growth of game development and immersive technology studios.

And with that, three days on the gamescom expo floor come to a close.
From game development studios, to education and talent, to esports and immersive technology, gamescom has given us the opportunity to showcase the breadth of Malta’s ecosystem and the people and companies helping to build its future.

That’s a wrap from Cologne. Until next year, gamescom!
